Between Durham and Chapel Hill there is no shortage of fantastic restaurants to enjoy during your next  visit to the Triangle. But this month, between April 23rd and 27th, TASTE the Event provides you with the perfect excuse to visit our Durham bed and breakfast and sample a wide variety of the Triangle’s delicious fare from the best restaurants in Durham. This celebration of the Triangle’s local food culture, hosted by Durham Magazine and Chapel Hill Magazine, will feature a variety of events that highlight many personalities and places that make the Triangle such a delicious place to eat.

The five day party kicks off at Top of the Hill in Chapel Hill with a cocktail and Hors D’Oeuvres reception, where you’ll get the chance to meet local food writers and cookbook authors and enjoy the spirits created by TOPO, the only certified fully local distillery in the South.

You won’t want to miss the Grand TASTE Experience on April 24th at the Durham Performing Arts Center. This event is designed showcase the Triangle’s variety of culinary creations. You’ll be able to sample culinary creations, artistic baked goods, fine wines, locally-brewed craft beers, and Triangle-roasted coffee, all while supporting local food banks with the purchase of your ticket.

On these days the Art of Cool Fest hosts over 20 performances on stages across Durham, bringing in world renown jazz artists like Maceo Parker and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson while also featuring outstanding local talent such as Lois Deloatch-Gomes and Peter and the Wolves. This festival in Durham, NC is perfect for the consummate jazz lover or musician as it provides opportunities to special access to the performances as well as master classes hosted at NC Central University. Lights…Camera…Action! Full Frame Documentary Film Festival Returns to Durham

From April 4th – 7th the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival will present over 100 documentary films in downtown Durham. Set within a four block radius, Full Frame offers film lovers an intimate and unique festival atmosphere where they can mingle with fellow fans as well as filmmakers.

This international event will also include discussions and panels with film professionals all set in beautiful locations such as the Carolina Theater, Durham Convention Center, the Durham Arts Council, and Durham Central Park.

Passes for the Festival are currently available. Passes allow you obtain tickets for the individual showings and events before they are available to the public, they sell out quickly so be sure to get yours soon. Tickets for each showing and event are available to the public on March 25th. The schedule for the festival listing all movie showings and events will be posted March 14th.

Tours in the Triangle

After that big Thanksgiving dinner you may be ready to do some walking! Throughout November (and year round) the Triangle has a variety of guided tours perfect for those looking to learn something new while on foot. Whether you’re interested in food, history, beer, or architecture, there is something for everyone.

This walking tour around downtown Durham will have you hankering for a beer and maybe a little spooked. Your guides from Tobacco Road Tours will lead you through four haunted sites in Durham telling tales of paranormal happenings from throughout the city’s history. But don’t worry, there will be plenty of time to enjoy some of the exciting Durham night life at four of the greatest bars in town.

Who better to lead you on a walking tour featuring the architecture of Durham than those who have worked so hard to protect it? Join Preservation Durham at their sign at the Durham Farmers Market in Central Park. This tour will feature the unique beauty of Downtown Durham and the history of Bull City.

This motorized tour led by Tobacco Road Tours will cover the history, culture, architecture, and food of the Bully City. Much of the city’s history is steeped in the tobacco industry, but there’s also a lot to learn about its textile mills, educational institutions, and culture!

Collecting Matisse and Modern Masters at the Nasher Museum of Art

From November 4th through February 10th the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University hosts the exhibit, Collecting Matisse and Modern Masters: The Cone sisters of Baltimore. On loan from the Baltimore Museum of Art this collection features more than 50 works by Matisse, Picasso, Gauguin, Renoir, van Gogh, Pissarro, and Courbet. The works also feature of a variety of textiles and decorative art from Europe, Asia, and Africa.

The Cone family built their fortune right here in North Carolina in the textile industry. The sisters Dr. Claribel and Miss Etta Cone supported the work of Matisse and other artists in the early 1900s before their style was appreciated by most critics. Great lovers of art, the sisters displayed their collection in their adjoining apartments in Baltimore until Etta bequeathed the entire collection to the Baltimore Museum of Art. The exhibit will also feature an interactive virtual tour of their Baltimore homes were the art was originally displayed.

November 9thAutumn in the Arboretum

Paul Jones, Curator of the Culberson Asiatic Arboretum, and horticulturist Michelle Rawlins will lead you through a tour of the gardens to highlight their autumn splendor.

November 14thSalad Bowls 

Horticulturist Lindsey Fleetwood will show you how to harvest salad greens all winter long. Take home your own container, seeds, and soil to enjoy the delicious and healthy benefits of greens throughout the winter.

November Events in the Triangle

The folks at Motorco are always dreaming up fun things for you to do in Durham. On November 10th  they will bring you a revival of their Food Truck Mashup! Slightly different from past mashups, the participating food trucks were selected by a public vote so you know their fare has to be good. Purchase tickets for general admission (13 coupons, each one good for one item from a truck, and one “Golden Ticket” for voting for your favorite dish) or the tasting ticket (6 coupons, each one good for one item from a truck).

Leningrad Performance by the North Carolina Symphony
On November 16th and 17th conductor Carlos Kalmar will lead the North Carolina Symphony in a performance of Mozart’s Symphony No. 25 in G minor K. 183 as well as Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7 in C major, Op. 60, “Leningrad.” The Symphony performs in the beautiful Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh, NC. Ring in the Christmas Spirit with Mannheim Steamroller
