There are lots of great summertime traditions in Durham, like the American Dance Festival, Durham Bulls baseball games, and one of our personal favorites, the Music on the Lawn concert series! Hosted by local radio station WUNC at the American Tobacco Campus, this summer concert series gives you eight opportunities to enjoy fantastic music for free this summer!
This Music on the Lawn hosts a variety of musicians from the Durham area and throughout the Southeast. Their styles range from bluegrass to gospel to Americana and all are perfectly suited to be enjoyed outside on a perfect summer evening. In order to enjoy that perfect evening, you’ll want to head over to the American Tobacco Campus early to ensure that you get the perfect spot on the lawn beneath the Lucky Strike tower. Music on the Lawn returns to the stage beneath that iconic structure this summer.
And since you’ll be spending some time inside the American Tobacco Campus you may want to take the opportunity to enjoy dinner at some of Durham’s best restaurants. Tyler’s Taproom offers a wide variety of craft beers that can be enjoyed on their patio and the Mellow Mushroom offers an ideal perfect friendly dinner-setting. If you think that a free summer concert series in Durham makes for the ideal el fresco dining opportunity than be sure to talk with your innkeeper, at Arrowhead Inn, about arranging to bring a picnic dinner. Picnic baskets and coolers are welcome at all Back Porch Music events and Chef Phil can put together a delicious feast for you to enjoy while you sit back, relax, and enjoy the sweet sounds of Music on the Lawn.
