This time of year provides plenty of opportunities to visit family and friends in the Triangle. You may have already found the perfect place to stay, at our Durham bed and breakfast, but now its time to find plenty of fun activities that the whole family can enjoy. If you have little ones to entertain this holiday season consider heading over to Little River Park, which is just down the road from our Durham, NC Inn. On December 2nd and 3rd the Park will host Birds for Beginners, this program will help children learn about birds through observation, storytelling, and crafts. Register for the program today, or enjoy the Park’s playground and hiking trails year round.

If you need to get everyone out of your lodging in Durham for a little while, why not take them over to the Ice Factory? This recently opened skating rink is located in the historic American Tobacco district, provides fun for the whole family Tuesday – Sunday. And if you’re looking for a great way to kick off the holiday season combine a trip to the skating rink with the Annual American Tobacco Tower Lighting celebration. The ceremony will take place on December 6th at 6:00pm, so don’t miss this chance to get into the holiday spirit!

Just because summer has passed doesn’t mean you can’t get a taste of Durham’s delicious farm-fresh flavor! The Durham Farmer’s market remains open year round and gives you and your family the chance to pick up fresh winter produce, preserved fruits and vegetables, baked goods, meat and dairy products, as well as crafts. Stop by the market between 10:00am and noon and for a chance to experience Durham’s unique flavor together.

It’s Not Too Early to Start Thinking About Holiday Shopping in Durham

And you’ll definitely want to start thinking about them now if you want to take advantage of two great holiday shopping opportunities here in Durham. First, on November 30th explore some incredible local shops near our bed and breakfast in Durham on Small Business Saturday. This event helps us celebrate unique stores like: Ox and Rabbit Soda and Sundries, Morgan Imports, and Parker and Otis where you’ll find Durham-made products as well as beautiful gifts from around the world.

As a part of the dtownMARKET project, this special event brings together over 50 local NC artists and designers all selling their beautiful crafts, perfect for holiday gift giving. You can make a whole afternoon of it and enjoy live music and food trucks from 12:00pm – 5:00pm, then head back to our Durham bed and breakfast for the evening.
