Durham Bulls Baseball: A Summer "Must-Do" in North Carolina

Durham Bulls Athletic Park
Durham, North Carolina

Its not summer in Durham without a trip to a Durham Bulls baseball game.

International League Champions in 2002, 2003 and 2009, a Durham Bulls game is a favorite activity for locals on a warm summer evening.  Now in its 108th season, our AAA baseball team continues to offer outstanding performances, an upbeat atmosphere and kid friendly inter-inning games.  A visit to the ballpark is the perfect treat for the entire family.  For an extra special athletic outing, head down to the ballpark this weekend, July 1st through the 4th, for a spectacular fireworks display after each game.

If you are not quite ready to handle the North Carolina heat, visit a restaurant across the street from the stadium like, The Mellow Mushroom or Tyler's, for some fresh local eats while watching the game on the big screen.

The Durham Bulls are the AAA affiliate of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.  The team was made famous not only by their outstanding history and accomplishments, but also by the 1988 movie, Bull Durham.

Check the schedule to find the perfect home baseball game to accompany your visit to the Arrowhead Inn.  Games run from April through September.  Buy tickets online starting at $7 or at the stadium box office.

Let's go BULLS!

Festival for the Eno: Durham, NC

July 3rd, 4th and 5th
Tickets: $15 at the gate

Looking for a great way to celebrate your Forth of July weekend?  Then don't miss Durham's 31st annual Festival for the Eno, an outdoor summer tradition just a short hop down stream from the Arrowhead Inn.

The Festival for the Eno is a much beloved summer tradition that celebrates the Eno River and its historical, cultural and artistic influences on our community.  It draws more than 30,000 visitors each year, a sure sign of what fun the festival holds.

Spend a day (or two) exploring the great outdoors!  Take a hike along the river banks, wander through the lush, green forest, wade through the shallow waters or rent a kayak and drift down stream.  After your outdoor adventures, take a break on the lawn and listen to some local tunes or check out the many artists and craftspeople who have drawn inspiration from one of the most beloved natural areas in the Triangle. Special events, contests and raffles take place throughout the weekend and the local and exotic cuisine should not be missed!

Whether your visiting from far away or just looking for a local hide-away, spend your Independence Day with us in Durham.  Book two nights at our North Carolina Bed and Breakfast during the Festival for the Eno, and we will include two complimentary day passes for the Festival.

Eno River State Park encompasses more than 3,900 acres of natural resources including the Eno River, which runs for 33 miles through central North Carolina before flowing into Falls Lake.  All proceeds from the Festival for the Eno help to maintain and expand the Eno River State Park, one of our favorite outdoor escapes.

We are looking forward to celebrating our Nation's birthday with you!

American Dance Festival Kicks Off

Today's the day! The long awaited American Dance Festival is back for another exciting season.

Tonight the African American Dance Emsemble will begin the season with a 3 night series of performances at Duke University's Reynolds Industries Theater.

The African American Dance Ensemble has been described by the Washington Post as "well beyond a theatrical event...a celebration of community, tradition, values and spirit."

Critics agree that this characteristically joyous and engergic performance of traditional African Dance is sure to delight all audiences and awaken the artistic spirit in even the skeptics of performance art.

I can't think of a better way to kick off Durham's powerful dance festival and hope you will find the opportunity to view one of this summer's performances.

Wine Tasting and Vineyard Tours at Rock of Ages: Hurdle Mills, NC

California may be the triple crown winner of wine producers in the United States, but here in North Carolina, we are happy to enjoy the relaxing comforts of southern tranquility and a little local wine, too!

That's right! Your next wine tasting doesn't have to send you across the country.  Instead, plan a restful weekend getaway to our Durham Bed and Breakfast, and spend an afternoon enjoying a little East coast wine at the Rock of Ages Winery & Vineyard in Hurdle Mills, NC.

Rock of Ages Winery & Vineyard is located in Southern Person County on the Moore Family Estate, just a short drive from the Arrowhead Inn.  Like many of the rural areas in North Carolina, the Moore farm grew tobacco for generations, until the booming industry began to wane and grapes became the new cash crop.

Spend an afternoon visiting the estate and enjoy wine tastings, tours, special events, concerts or just a leisurely afternoon overlooking the vineyard and lake.  The vineyard is open to visitors every day of the week, with extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays.

Looking to add a little romance to your weekend?  Couple your wine tour with one of the Arrowhead Inn's romance packages for a vacation to always remember.
