Durham Bulls Baseball returns to Historic Athletic Park
Durham Athletic Park
If you stroll through the newly refurbished tobacco district in downtown Durham on a warm summer night, it is impossible to escape the energy of patrons enjoying the outdoor patios of near by restaurants, children laughing while riding bicycles on the American Tobacco Trail or the iconic crack of a baseball bat echoing from the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, home to the Durham Bulls Baseball Team since 1995. But on May 10th, the streets outside our hip and trendy stadium will be a little quieter as the Bulls travel a couple miles down the road to the historic Durham Athletic Park for a homecoming game like no other.
Yes, a homecoming. The historic Durham Athletic Park, situated on the corner of Morris Street and West Corporation Street in downtown, was the home to the Durham Bulls for 55 years before the team moved to the current location. It is the ball park that became famous in the movie Bull Durham in 1988 and the facility that remains near to the heart of Durham residents who watched, played and cheered at events for over half a century. On May 10th, the Durham Bulls (2009 AAA league national champions!) will take on the Toledo Mud Hens in the first AAA game ever played in the historic stadium. Buy your lawn tickets today to reserve a spot!
Accompany your nostalgic evening with a stay at our historic Durham Bed and Breakfast, just a short drive from the Durham Athletic Park. You can enjoy an early dinner on our outdoor patio before heading out to root, root, root for the home team!
